Understanding Your
Paycheque |
Income
-
%/Lieu - Instead of having benefits, TOC's are paid a
specified amount for each day worked and fall into 2 categories. For
each day worked, $3 is paid instead of benefits ($1.50 for half day).
The exception is if you work a consecutive assignment of 5 days or
greater. In this case, you will be paid $3/day worked for days 1-4,
and 10% of your salary for days 5 and over.
-
Regular - these are days that are paid for any
assignment that is 3 days or less, the exception being #3 below.
-
On-scale - these are either for days 1-4 for any
assignment (plus $3 in lieu of benefits) or where a TOC has worked
four or more consecutive days (or mixture of full and half days).
-
On-Scale - these on-scale days are different from #3
in that they are for days 5, 6, ... for any consecutive assignment.
In this case, %/LIEU will be a mixture of $3/day for regular and #3
on-scale days, plus 10% of your salary from #4 On-scale days.
-
SIP - for part-time teachers, their paycheque will
include 2% of salary as SIP. Basically this is a raise in that it it
covers the 1.7% of salary that is deducted for LTD (long term
disability) and SHORTDISB (Short term disability).
Deductions
-
CPP and E.I. (~4.95 + 1.87% of salary respectively) -
automatic deductions according to government regulations
-
SUPN TCH (upto 7.55% of salary upto $42,000) - Pension
contribution required by all teachers and TOC's.
-
BCTF (0.35% for TOC's) and
Dues (VSTA 0.6%)- automatic deductions
required by the collective agreement for all teachers and TOC's for
Union dues (BCTF and VSTA - Vancouver Secondary Local of BCTF).
